Introducing Two New Stallions to the Crimson Farms Breeding Program
With the 2011 breeding season over and thoughts already turning to 2012, we are proud to announce two new additions to our breeding barn …
Valentino Rossi UA, sired by the great DA Valentino out of the beautiful ATA Savannah Bey.
AR Versyche, sired by Versaces Gold (Versace x Fortune In Gold) out of the Padrons Psyche daughter Allie Chat.
Crimson Farms has selectively bred both of these youngsters to our own mares this year and we are anxiously awaiting their first foals. If you would like information regarding purchasing introductory breedings to either of these young stallions please contact us through our main office and we will be happy to discuss it with you.
I have been trying to write this article for quite a while now but no matter how many times I’ve thought that I was ready and that I’d be able to come up with the right words, I’ve closed it out without finishing it … While I will probably never be able to come up with the right words, I can no longer put off the inevitable.
A few years ago Steve and I were blessed to have two amazing stallions come in to our lives; Desert Heat VF+/ and The Color Of Fame … in April we endured the heartache of losing them.
Desert Heat VF+/ was foaled May 5, 1994 … he earned his first National title in 1995 when he was named U.S. National Champion Yearling Colt … The titles kept coming until I had the honor of showing him to AAOTH Canadian National Champion in 2007; that was also the year that he retired from the ring. Heat earned a number of titles from 1995 through 2007 and he sired numerous champion offspring, but he was much more than just a superb show horse and wonderful sire … he was beautiful, he was big, he was impressive, and once you saw him in person he was unforgettable.
The Color Of Fame was foaled April 21, 1993; his first offspring entered the show ring in 1997 and they have been making their way to the winner’s circle ever since. I’m sure that someone somewhere has statistics they could list, but no matter how impressive the statistics might be, they couldn’t compare to Color himself … Simply put, he was magnificent.
Desert Heat VF+/ 1994 - 2011 The Color Of Fame 1993 - 2011
These extraordinary stallions left us far too soon ... While they may be gone, they will live on in our hearts forever.
Congratulations to Katie Russell On Her Purchase of Allectri Phi CF
After watching Katie ride Allectri Phi CF (Allusion AOF+ x Jamin Like Crazy) to a first place in their ½ Arabian Hunter Pleasure AATR class it wasn’t a stretch to imagine them leaving the ½ Arabian Hunter Pleasure AATR Championship class wearing the roses later in the week. Imagination turned to reality on the final Saturday of the 2011 Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show and whether anyone realized it or not at the moment, Allectri Phi CF and Kate’s next ride was on it’s way to being in the AAOTR division; Katie purchased Allectri Phi the following week. Katie and Allectri Phi will be riding with Cynthia Burkman, so at least we will have the opportunity to see them at shows in and around Region II this year.
With six Champion, one Reserve Champion, and ten Top Ten titles between them, the get of Crimson Farms sires did a wonderful job of representing our stallions. Desert Heat VF+/, Allusion AOF+, and The Color Of Fame are all known for siring wonderful offspring that can show in a variety of venues, but it is always a pleasure to see it happen at Scottsdale.
Voyaguers (Desert Heat VF+/ x No Small Affair) earned two Champion titles with his then owner Hillary Hoffman (Hunter Pleasure AAOTR 18-35 and Hunter Pleasure AATR 18-35). We have learned that Voyaguers +/ has since been sold and we wish him and his new owner the very best of luck. A rose garland was also won by our very own Countdown to Fame (Desert Heat VF+/ x DDA Fames Contessa by The Color Of Fame) … the striking two-year-old gelding was shown by Austin Boggs to the Champion title in the ½ Arabian Stock Hunter Jr. Championship. A Top Ten was earned in the Arabian Hunter Pleasure Jr. Horse Championship by Fanfare WF (Desert Heat VF+/ x WF Fantazzia) for owners Mark and Debra Helmick, and two Top Ten awards went to EE Extreme Heat (Desert Heat VF+/ x EE Minuet) for owners Lorra and Laura Smith, one in theWestern Pleasure JTR 14-17 Championship and the other in the Western Pleasure JOTR 14-17 Championship.
Sired by Allusion AOF+/, Aflair CF (x LM Padrons Affair) took home two honors for her owner Madison Stevens; Champion ½ Arabian Hunter Pleasure with Cynthia Burkman and Top Ten ½ Arabian Hunter Pleasure AAOTR 18-35 with Madison in the irons, and Erral Flynn CF+// (Allusion AOF+ x Twilite) owned by Lindsay Smith was ridden to a Reserve Champion title in the Hunter Pleasure Walk/Trot 10 & Under class by Mackenzie Gray … we congratulate their owners and riders and look forward to seeing them again later this year at Regionals.
Scottsdale brought both joy and tears as Allectri Phi CF (Allusion AOF+ x Jamin Like Crazy) made his way to the arena to earn a Champion ½ Arabian Hunter Pleasure AATR 40 and Over title with rider Katie Russell up and a Top Ten in the ½ Arabian Hunter Pleasure class with trainer Lizbeth Bowen; it wasn’t a matter of if he sold, it was merely a matter as to who it was that he would sell to. In the end it was Katie Russell that would become his new owner … we will miss having Allectri Phi with us here at the farm and at shows but we know that he has gone to a wonderful owner that will cherish him as much as we do.
The Color Of Fame had his share of offspring in the ribbons as Imagine Fame (The Color Of Fame x Sunhi Ddanncer) made her way to the winner’s circle with Jason Shuster on the lead to pick up the roses as the 2011 ½ Arabian Stock Hunter AAOTH Champion Mare. Top Ten awards were earned in ½ Arabian Hunter Pleasure JOTR and ½ Arabian Hunter Seat Equitation by Color Of Flame (The Color Of Fame x Spring Azure) and his rider Christian Svennes, National Treasure (The Color Of Fame x Gweniviere) and Casey Cutler in the ½ Arabian Hunter Pleasure AAOTR 36-54 Championship, Armani Exchange (The Color Of Fame x Dancing Inthedark) and Brittany Desidro in ½ Arabian Hunter Pleasure AAOTR 18-35, and Color Me Classy HF (The Color Of Fame x Classicara) in the ½ Arabian Hunter Pleasure Jr. Horse Championship for Heritage Arabian Farm LLC.
Other Happenings at the Show
It is always a pleasure when a horse we sell goes on to do well with it’s new owner, so we were delighted to watch as GR Marvel (Marwan Al Shaqab x LC Ferrarity) and Diane Allen were named Champion Sr. Stallion AAOTH and as Jay showed him to a 3rd Place in the Internationals Breeders Classic 3, 4 & 5 Year Old class.
Last year Hillary Boothe rode JTR for us and although she no longer is able to ride as a Youth, we were happy to learn that she would still be able to ride for us in AATR while she attends college. Hillary rode Solid Brass KA (Brass x Prima Dona KA) to a Top Ten in the Arabian Western Pleasure AATR 18-39 and a 2nd place in the Arabian Side Saddle, Western AATR … Solid Brass KA was also ridden to a Top Ten in the Arabian Ladies Side Saddle Western Open by Crimson Farms’ trainer Lizbeth Bowen.
I decided this year would be the year that I would learn to drive and never being one to do things on a small scale I entered the Arabian Country Pleasure Driving AOTD at the Scottsdale show as my first show; once we arrived at the show I found myself asking what part of brain fade I was in when I did that. I thought I was going to get a reprieve when it started raining and it was thought it would be best if I didn’t subject myself or my horse to less than reasonable conditions on our maiden voyage in to the ring … it was not to be; in the best interest of all Amateurs to Drive the class was postponed until the weather cleared a bit and the class could be held in the Equidome. I learned a number of things about driving while at the show; first and foremost breathe, second it is easier to remember to watch ahead when you understand that doing otherwise could get you killed, and last but not least that Driving is a lot of fun. MD Pro-Aequus and I didn’t win, but we had fun, and in the end, whether or not you have fun is all that should really matter.
Crimson Farms congratulates everyone on a wonderful show and wishes you the very best of luck in the rest of the show season.
The Color Of Fame Enjoys Having Visitors At Crimson Farms
We often receive calls or e-mails asking about The Color Of Fame ... Is he still here, is he is still breeding, and is it possible to visit him; the answer to all of the above is yes. Color is still a part of the Crimson Farms family, he enjoyed being able to be turned out on grass for his daily exercise throughout the winter months and visitors are welcome Monday thru Friday during our regular business hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) ... If you wish to visit him on Saturdays we will do our best to accommodate you but we ask that you please call in advance to schedule an appointment.
While Color is no longer standing at stud to the public, he is still breeding mares here at the farm. If you are interested in purchasing an offspring of The Color Of Fame please contact us, we may have what you are looking for here, or if not we may know of something at another farm that may suit your needs.
We thank you for your continued interest in The Color Of Fame and hope that if you happen to be in the Santa Ynez Valley you will stop by the farm to see him.
Crimson Farms congratulates Gail Grubb and Vertigo CF on their U.S. Nationals Top Ten in the Western Pleasure AOTR Western Pleasure Maturity. Gail purchased Vertigo at the Region III show held at the Reno Livestock Center in July of 2010 and rode him to wins at the Daffodil Arabian Summer Show and the Oregon Fall Classic before heading to Tulsa to compete in a highly competitive class that started with forty-five entries. Gail and Vertigo make a wonderful team; we look forward to watching them as they continue on together and we wish them the best of luck.
Congratulations to Ali Mohammad Al Alion the purchase of WH York ...
... And a special thank you to Bob and Janene Boggs and Ryan and Ricardo Rivera for bringing everyone together. We have enjoyed being a part of York's life to this point and look forward to watching him in the future. York will be presented at the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show by Mr .Austin Boggs and we will be there cheering them on.
It wasn’t the first time Voyageurs+ (Desert Heat VF+/ x No Small Affair) and his owner Hillary Hoffman had been called to the Top Ten at a National show; they were there in 2007 and again in 2009, but this was their year … the year they would hear the words that make a rider’s heart skip a beat and gives him or her a sense of unequaled pride … ‘Your 2010 Canadian National Champion is Voyageurs, with Hillary Hoffman in the irons’. 2010 also brought the pair honors in the Hunter Pleasure AATR 18-35 division where they laid claim to a Top Ten title; both classes began with 28 horse and rider combinations and consisted of a first cut and a final go for their respective Championships.
Hillary and Voyageurs started showing in the Western Pleasure division in 2005; they earned their first Regional Champion title in 2006 and their first National Top Ten in 2007 … They made their Hunter Pleasure debut in the spring of 2009 and earned their first Regional Champion title by June of that year; a second Regional Champion title followed in July and the pair topped off the year by garnering a U.S. National Top Ten in the Hunter Pleasure AAOTR 18-35 division from a class of 38. We congratulate them on their two 2010 Canadian National titles and are looking forward to watching as they enter the ring in Tulsa, OK for the 2010 U.S. National Championships, and as always, we wish them the very best of luck.
We know how difficult it can be to get to any of the National events; therefore we congratulate ALL of the kids that worked so hard to get to Youth Nationals this year. Although we know of a few of the offspring of our stallions and mares, it is difficult to keep track of them all, therefore we would love to hear from those of you that may ave shown one of them and we would like to add your accomplishments and/or photos that you may have to our web site; if you have anything that you would like us to mention, please feel free to e-mail us and we will be happy to put it up.
As breeders, we are always thrilled when one of our foals goes on to do well; we applaud Madison Stevens and Aflair CF (Allusion AOF+ x LM Padrons Affair) on making their way through numerous section cuts and ultimately laying claim to Reserve National Champion titles in both the HA/AA Hunter Pleasure JOTR and JTR divisions ... Congratulations on a job well done.
We are pleased to announce that Hillary Boothe, our JTR rider in a number of divisions, came home with four National Champion titles in Dressage riding her wonderful Kings Citilights and her lovely 1/2 Arabian mare Khalena Royale+/. This will be Hillary's last year showing at Youth, but we know that she will do a great job as she enters the Adult AOTR and ATR divisions in the coming year. Congratulations Hillary, we are proud of you.
Congratulations also go out to Austin Boggs for showing GH Marwana to a National Champion title in the JTH Mares. We had recently sold Marwana and were thrilled to have her earn a National title for her new owners. We wish Marwana's new owners the best of luck with her and look forward to seeing her 2011 Padrons Psyche foal when it arrives.
To say that the show was good for us would be an understatement; we had a great time, won our share of classes, and our barn displayed total teamwork … you can’t ask for more than that.
Wes and Beth Bowen have been doing a great job for us, and it showed in more than just the winner’s circle. With Champion, Reserve Champion, and Top Five titles in the English, Hunter and Western Pleasure divisions, the horses have never been better conditioned and the genuinely pleasant atmosphere and teamwork at the stalls has never been more noticeable than it was at this show. We look forward to continuing our relationship with them and hope to start bringing outside clients back to Crimson Farms for them to work with as well.
Our JTR rider Hillary Boothe made us proud by not only displaying her wonderful riding skills, but by simply being an all around great kid and good sportsman; we truly enjoy having her as part of the Crimson Farm family. Hillary rode Purebred Solid Brass KA to a Reserve Champion title in their AHASFV Western Pleasure JTR 17 and under class and a Top Five in their Pacific Slopes Western Pleasure JTR class … Hillary also rode ½ Arabian Hunter Allectri Phi CF and Purebred Hunter Allari CF to wins in their JTR classes at the show as well.
Hang Time made his show debut by winning his one horse English Pleasure Jr. Horse class with Wes; while that may not seem like much of a feat, they looked terrific and it served as a great learning experience for him (Hang Time, not Wes) … Wes also rode our Purebred English Pleasure mare Ghazis Gogo Girl to a unanimous Champion title in the Pacific Slope English Pleasure Open class. Beth made her trips to center ring as well showing Allectri Phi CF to a Pacific Slope Champion title, Allari CF to a Top Five in the Pacific Slope Championship and by picking up a number of ribbons in the AHASFV part of the show. Of course this wouldn’t be complete without complimenting our hard working, never complaining and always pleasant grooms Javier and Ernie on doing a spectacular job of taking care of the horses and for making everyone look great going in the ring … Everyone deserves a round of applause for a job well done.
We love to see our horses proudly trotting through the pasture, heads held high, knees snapping, tails flagged and looking like champions; the real question is … What will happen when the leather goes on? Our young four-year-old stallion Hang Time is showing us that he doesn’t change much. Bred to be an English horse, the handsome AA Apollo Bey son out of the Ariston daughter Ariaelle, is living up to his heritage not only as a talented up and coming show horse, but as a promising sire as well. At just four years old, Hang Time’s first foal crop is hitting the ground and looking great … Upright necks, free shoulders, and beautiful movement is just a part of what we are seeing in his foals (photos and videos of foals to come soon); he certainly seems to be putting his stamp on them and we are pleased to see it coming through on more than just one foal or from one dam line.
While many young horses make their way to the show ring as three year olds, Crimson Farms chose to bring Hang Time along slowly and allow HIM to decide when the time was right; he made his way in to the ring for the first time at the AHASFV show in Santa Barbara in mid-May and to the delight of everyone there, he put on an unforgettable performance. With only one English Pleasure Jr. Horse class available, it was a short show for him, but it served him well as a learning experience and will hopefully go a long way in making him comfortable when he returns to the ring again in June, also in Santa Barbara, during the Region II Championships. For those of you that we didn’t get a chance to see in May, we hope to see you there ... If we miss you in Santa Barbara maybe we will get a chance to see you in Reno for Region III.
What do you get when you cross The Color Of Fame with a Phi Slama Jama daughter? ...
... We didn’t get spots, but we certainly did get a lot of everything else.Crimson Farms welcomed our first Purebred Saddlebred by The Color Of Fame in to the world a few weeks ago and we couldn’t be more pleased with the striking bay colt. Yes, color would have been nice, but when our lovely mare Jamin Like Crazy and the handsome young colt stepped in to the paddock for the first time, he took our breath away. With a long upright neck suggestive of that belonging to his sire, long graceful legs that appeared to float across the ground, and trot coming from all for corners, without making a sound, the self-confident youngster shouted ‘Look at me, I am special and I know it’.
We aren’t Saddlebred breeders, and finding ourselves in another show venue isn’t something that we have given much thought, but the idea of crossing the two champion producing Saddlebreds was too captivating an idea to pass up; what the future will bring for the young colt is yet to be determined, but for now we aren’t seeing him losing any of his parts.
As always, the staff of the Las Vegas World Cup Arabian Horse Show did an outstanding job of putting a great show filled with spectacular horses. Taryl Pearson and the rest of the crew are to be commended on a job well done and for making the show a pleasure to attend.
Crimson Farms extends a heartfelt thank you to Bob Boggs and his wife Janene for their help in getting our lovely mares GH Marwana and GH Falcon Femme to the show and for their support during the changes in our program. Led by Bob, Marwana and Falcon Femme both put on a beautiful show and earned Top Five honors in their respective classes. For information regarding either of these wonderful mares, please contact either Bob Boggs at Midwest Station I or Susanne Mackrell at Crimson Farms.
I have been told to ‘always expect the unexpected’ … I have also been told that ‘change is good’; this year has brought us not only the unexpected, but it has brought change as well.
At Crimson Farms we always strive to breed beautiful and athletic horses; we will continue to do so but for now we have decided to focus our farm training programs on the Performance divisions and eliminate our Halter training division … To accomplish this goal we welcome trainers Wes and Beth Bowen to our facility and wish them the best of luck throughout the year. In addition to Crimson Farms’ horses, Wes and Beth will be accepting training horses from outside clients in all Performance divisions and will be available for lessons for those clients that wish to trailer in to the farm; they also have a lesson program using Crimson Farms horses for those wishing to learn to ride and/or possibly show. For now, when we have horses that we choose to show in the In-Hand/Breeding classes we will most likely be using outside trainers and handlers.
Please feel free to contact Wes, Beth or Susanne if you have any questions regarding our programs; if you would like to stop by the farm to inquire in person someone from our staff will be happy to assist you.
As usual, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show was a great success and drew a huge number of exhibitors and spectators to the Arabian show world. The stallions and mares of Crimson Farms were well represented at the show … we appreciate the time the owners of our horses’ offspring put in to getting their horses there and we hope that they all had a great time. We have compiled a list of ribbon earners and we hope that if you notice that someone is missing that you will give us a call so that we can include them.
